Spring 2009 Progeny Report . . .  
The first Black Ice calves were actually born last spring. There were 36 progeny from Power Genetics in Arapahoe, Nebraska and the American Simmental Association Carcass Merit Program that had birth and weaning data reported in the Spring 2009 ASA Genetic Evaluation which resulted in his BW EPD remaining as low as it was predicted and his growth EPD’s increasing significantly. Gordon was traveling in Nebraska recently and stopped by the Power Genetics Bull Development Facility to visit with J.D. Anderson and to take a look at the Black Ice sons they had on test. They were very refined in their stature, yet showed great muscle expression and looked really good on their carcass scans. At Gibbs Farms, our Black Ice fall calves were mostly out of Purebred Simmental mature cows. He definitely reduced birth weight and frame in the cows he was mated to. We have enough data on him to know he is that outlier low birth weight Dakota son we were looking for and we are looking forward to seeing his progeny scan data this fall to see if he will transmit his extremely high individual IMF potential.
